Classical Music in the Time of COVID-19

Helen Peng, M2, Class of 2023

One of the many industries disrupted by the pandemic is the vibrant classical music community of Kansas City. Playing the violin is something that helps me feel more connected to my community and I was thrilled to be involved in a livestreamed concert with the Midwest Chamber Ensemble this past month. I’ve been greatly inspired by the efforts made by local musicians to find opportunities to safely continue to play– which include outdoor concerts and concerts such as these that avoid gathering any audience at all. While I miss playing for an audience and in a larger group of musicians, I am so grateful for the local community and their efforts to keep music alive during these times!
